Simona Madonna
Simona is a painter and ceramic artist, born in Rome in 1970. She has multi-faceted training that ranges from Textile Design to Product Design, from Advertising Graphics to Photography. Her artistic career begins in Rome, continues in Florence, and develops abroad, in New Zealand. Waiheke Island (New Zealand) is the place that allows Simona to approach pure art and develop an interest in ceramics by creating her own language and range of products. On Waiheke Island Simona opens her first Art Studio. The years spent in New Zealand are also years dedicated to travel and exploration of places and cultures, including months in Polynesia, (Cook Islands) and in Australia. In 2009 Simona returns to Italy and decides to open an Art Studio in Sardinia, a land to which she is very attached.
Simona Madonna uses the canvas as a support on which layers of signs, colors, actions and stratifications follow one another, and could go on indefinitely. It is the recording of time, of thoughts, moods and interactions that occur at that precise moment — some of the infinite shapes that a canvas can reveal. It is a process of non-attachment to any of these, and the acceptance of becoming. Everything changes, transforms, is born, and dies.
In the canvases we find glazes of colour and shades of white that reveal what was previously. The natural pigment leaves an indelible mark that ‘bleeds through,’ that oozes even after many layers of plaster. White is the starting point but also the ‘sum’ of all that has been — and the opening to the new.
Simona Madonna has made solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. Her works can be found in private homes in Australia, Cook Islands, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hawaii, Holland, Italy, Norway, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States.
